Performance Notes
Set to lyrics by Helen Taylor, Easthope Martin’s music to Come to the fair is an upbeat work that has been transcribed for a number of different combinations. The get an idea of the work, any of the numerous recordings well do (here is one example). This version for eight horns for was arranged for Nancy Joy and the New Mexico State University (NMSU) horn choir, and it is a very accessible version, with the parts descending in tessitura from horn 1 to 8, and solo lines distributed between the parts. The introduction is slightly different form the original, and a verse was omitted, other than that this version comes very close to Easthope’s setting. The publication status of this work is currently not clear.
