Performance Notes
Written for Nancy Joy and the New Mexico State University Horn Choir, this Fanfare consists of two main musical ideas, the beginning fanfare motif and a slower variation on it in the middle section. The range is limited, the rhythms not very challenging, and the meter changes linear, so what makes it a bit challenging is the tempo in combination with the (for this piece) characteristic sixth leaps. The other distinguishing figure is a 3-3-2 accent subdivision of two straight quaver (eight notes) bars, which opens and closes the piece. Overall a work well worth investigating into.
