Performance Notes
From the pen of famous composer/lyricist duo George and Ira Gershwin, the 1928 song Embraceable You was eventually used in the 1930 Broadway musical Girl Crazy. Now Girl Crazy needs little introduction, containing an array of instant hits such as "Could You Use Me?", "I Got Rhythm", and also Embraceable You. The arrangement is similar in style to the other two Walters works for four horns, Blue Moon and I Could Have Danced All Night, this time however with more evenly distributed parts. The division follows the more standard 1-3-2-4 system, with a range between pedal F and high A. The accompanying grooves are written out, with meticulous details to get to the right result – a quick listen to the original song is always recommended though. So how does this one compare to the other two arrangements mentioned above? Well, for one it is for a completely different song, and for some reason it is slightly harder to get together on the first read-through. That may be because the parts are more individual, or the level of detail given higher, or possibly because the phrases are given around more frequently. In the end though the final product counts, and in that regard Walters’ Embraceable You is by no means behind the others. Another fun little song to add to your repertoire at a reasonable price. The audience will appreciate it.
