Performance Notes
The Serenade no.13 for strings in G major was originally written for string quartet with optional bass, but is equally well known to be performed by a string orchestra. With only four parts, the arrangement’s six allow for double stopping, and a few rests every once in a while to breathe. The famous theme is shared between the parts, so that every player gets it at least once. In general all material is shared between the parts, which explains why they all have the same top note. The arrangement is very well done, in the original key, and very accessible, but it has to be noted that the edition has some minor flaws: the score only has bar numbers, while the parts have rehearsal letters. The parts also have numbers, so there is some common ground. Also, the title is misspelled on score and parts, but is correct on the front cover. Despite these presentational flaws it’s a, arrangement of the famous 2nd movement of Eine kleine Nachtmusik well worth purchasing.
