Performance Notes
These are transcriptions of the final fugal sections of two Bach motets, one originally for 8 voices (however conveniently reduced to 4 in the arranged part), and the other for 4 voices and continuo (basically doubling the vocal parts). With a great number of recordings of these two works available, and with a general idea of Bach’s style, not much needs to be said about the character of these pieces. The original motet BWV 230 is in C major, while the arrangement is in G. Perhaps F major would have been more comfortable both in terms of fingerings and range, but if you are a fan of a2, this is the key for you! Motet BWV225 is originally in B flat major, and here in F major. This makes the transposition consistent (both are a fourth lower), and distinguishes the two keys. For the price this is a worthy investment, regardless of the brevity of the parts chosen to transcribe.
