Performance Notes
Tiger rag is a jazz standard that was originally recorded by the Original Dixieland Jazz Band. Attribution to a single, or even a group of composers, is difficult, and due to the large number of re-interpretations over the years, it is hard to tell which one, if any, was the template for this arrangement. Due to the perceived limitations of the horn, and the horn player in terms of jazz capabilities, the arrangement looks quite straight forward. The swing is not written out, and there is an irritating fourth horn part, almost entirely written on the lower leger lines. Due to a distinct lack of arrangements of jazz repertoire for horns ensembles though, this is a welcome addition, and will bring a different flavour to the rehearsal and/or concert.
