Creator's Comments
Laudate Dominum: "Praise the Lord, for He is good..." should be fairly bright and üp-beat".
Imrpoberium is rather "down"and speals of ä heart full of misery"; the tempo should therefore be slower than the other two pieces but still in two in a bar.
Exaltabo Te: "I will exalt thee, O Lord", should be quite bright and jubilant or even triumphant.
Performance Notes
These are straight transcriptions of 5-voice works by Palestrina, one of the most renowned Italian Renaissance composers. He was the foremost exponent of the Roman school, and these three pieces demonstrate all the characteristics of his work. The lines are all horizontal, building the harmonies seamlessly, with all parts taking turns in adding passing notes and some material of interest.
The division of parts is the usual top to bottom, however the fifth horn has the widest range, reaching the same heights as the other players (in the last piece), but going considerably lower. The collection of pieces is interesting, and well worth investigating.
