Performance Notes
Pottag's arrangement of Tannhauser is a combination of three parts: The opening fanfare of Tristan, The Tannhauser theme, and finally the Pilgrim's chorus, which opens the oprea (and the overture). The keys are adapted to fit the suite, with the chorus looking as in the original, but in horn in F instead of E. The parts are all treated well, with interesting bits to play in each of them. Unfortunately this arrangement, as so many other Belwin ones is currently out of print. Compared to some more recent arrangements, this one might be a little bit simplistic, but it provides access to one of the major works of the operatic repertoire to intermediate ensembles.
