Performance Notes
Ricercar on the 8th tone is a typical Gabrieli piece, with four individual voices finding their way from beginning to the end, and forming harmonies in between. The parts are distributed in the orchestral fashion (1-3-2-4), but really all assume solo roles, just in different tessituras. One in a line of many Gabrieli transcriptions, this is a worthwhile investment for ambitious beginner's quartets.
