Creator's Comments
Prince Louis Ferdinand of Prussia, born in 1906, is the grandson of the last German Emperor, Wilhelm II. He is heir and master of Burg Hohenzollern, the majestic castle of the former ruling family of Germany. There, a special concert was given on August 20, 1980 on the occasion of the First European Hornsymposium. As Intrada, the present arrangement for horn choir of a miniature march for piano (a piece written by the prince himself in his youth) was performed on the regal courtyard of the castle by the Detmold horn choir of Professor Michael Hoeltzel. Strive for a very formal, rather stiff Prussian military style, with trumpet like fanfares and a big baritone solo in the trio. Please avid a high school band style of playing.
Performance Notes
This is a typical march, arranged for the occasion of a special concert at Burg Hohenzollern during the first European horn symposium 1980. One of the fewer pieces for five horns, the arrangement is very accessible, and is popular with concert audiences all around the world.
