Performance Notes
The Prelude in B flat minor BWV867 is in a moderately fast eight (92), which makes it difficult to keep it moving forward, and challenging to present as a stand-alone work (as the fugue is not included in this publication). As he did on occasion before, Shaw distributes the parts slightly differently from any other six horn arrangement, with the bass in horn 4 (the centre of the ensemble), the other low parts in horns 2 and 6, and the high parts in 1, 3 and 5. The range is on the limited side though, and except for the sixth leap from c2 to a2 there is little technically challenging, which makes this arrangement ideal for an ambitious beginning ensemble.
