Performance Notes
Nica's dream is a jazz standard by Horace Silver, an American jazz pianist and composer. He is best known for his hard bop compositions, influenced by gospel, as well as African and Latin American music. This arrangement again features the standard Meyer division of parts: in pairs from the top down. Horn 5-8 have an accompanying function (rhythm) most of the time, with jazz rhythms written out and supported by the use of a variety of accents.Horns 1 & 2, and 3 & 4 play in unison most of the time, splitting rarely for harmonic purposes. While the first two parts contain most of the tune, parts 3 & 4 contain the counter-melodies. A straight-forward arrangement, this work should appeal to people who like the tune (which can easily be found online).
