Performance Notes
McKay's Moderato e cantabile is the first item in his Divertimento no.16, and was dedicated to the original Winfield Horn Quartet (Seymour, Wooddell, Terrance, Myer). It is a slow, almost chorale-like work, with a clear tessitura hierarchy 1-2-3-4. The range is limited, and the individual parts move in small intervals. In combination with the moderate tempo, this makes it an ideal piece for beginners. Like many other Carl Fischer editions, this work is currently out of print.
