Performance Notes
La chasse is a short, as the title implies, hunting music like piece that starts out in D minor, but by bar 3 starts modulating and by the end has gone through most keys. The meter is a typical 6/8, and the rhythms are as one would expect (another example of the same type of piece is Rossini’s Rendezvous de chasse). Thought the range is limited, this piece is still difficult due to its fast tempo and the many modulations. Highly recommended as an encore piece, this work also works equally well as an opener, or after a slow item.
