Performance Notes
German dance no.9 is part of a collection of KV numbers of German dances (600, 602, 605), and is no.9, and not no.4 as printed on this publications. It has about seven individual voices, so the choice of instrumentation is good: two melodic, two harmonic, two rhythmic voices, and one bass voice. They are distributed in this order in the dance, while in the trio horns 2 and 3 are rhythmic, and horn 4 has a harmonic/melodic counterpoint. The transcription is not in the original key of C major, but rather in E flat major (B flat major horn pitch). This means the range is F - c3, which is the current standard. While it would have been welcome had other dances been included in this publication, it is a bright, short piece that, if found at a low price, can provide about two minutes of light entertainment.
