Music For Horns

This is a fun little piece, a combination of Strauss' 2nd horn concerto, Till Eulenspiegel, Mozart's 3rd horn concerto, and perhaps some more, all arranged in waltz-style. To match the key of the concerti, the horn parts are in E flat, which in turn means that the parts taken from Till are a tone lower.

The solo lines are distributed between horns 1 to 3, while the fourth horn is exclusively the bass provider. Transposing in bass clef can be tricky, so in a way the fourth is the most difficult part. Apart from transposing, there are 2 stopped notes in horns 1, 2 and 4, with no other extended techiques required.

Most of the duration of the piece is made up by repeats and the da capo, but due to its fun and quirky character, each of the repetitions adds something to the piece. While probably best served to an audience with knowledge of the horn repertoire, Jeurissen's Lustige Streiche works equally well in a different setting.
